This groundbreaking book from the UK’s leading spokesman on nutrition looks at why millions of people have craving for substances such as coffee, sugar and alcohol, as well as drugs. Meet he author who can help you become addiction free without suffering the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.

Passages Malibu was founded in 2000 by father and son team Chris and Pax Prentiss as a result of a father’s unconditional love and ongoing concern for son Pax and his downward life spiral of addictions. Pax’s personal journey in overcoming heroin and cocaine addiction was the foundation for Passages to pioneer the approach which has now become the new standard for the treatment of alcohol addiction and drug dependency. Rather than simply following the basic one-size-fits all 12 step rehab model in which clients attend group meetings and receive little individual counseling, Passages provides 60-65 hours/month of concentrated one-on-one therapy to every client. These personalized sessions focus on determining the underlying causes of dependency on drugs and alcohol. At Passages, a consulting physician and skilled team of licensed therapists customize a private drug treatment program for each individual in a naturally serene and beautiful setting. In 2010, Passages Ventura, a new wellness center was established in Ventura, California. Sorry folks, you cannot ‘unaddict’ easily, addictions are both physical and psychological, ( just look at how people on nicotene replacement still feel the urge to smoke ). Anyone who claims you can “become addiction free without suffering the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms” is lying. If supplements were the answer every addiction clinic in the world would be using them. Just hoping to save someone some money here.

i wonder what your problem is @holfordwrong all statements are supported with research…..it looks like you have some issues. Can you share to why you are so obsessed?

  4. holfordwrong says:

@opusde I think you mean “you’re” and “individual”. You also need a space between “,” and “you”.
Enjoy wasting lots of money on supplements you don’t need. Have a good life.

@MrTACOCHIP sorry i think you misunderstood me. i was completely agreeing with you that caffeine does not replace dopamine in the brain. i was just explaining how caffeine works to give the boost in wakefulness that we are familiar with. obviously the effects of one cup of coffee are not very large, and a much greater dose will then induce some of the effects that anyone who has had such a large amount has experienced, ie slight tremors etc.. everything that holford is saying is complete rubbish

  8. MrTACOCHIP says:

@holfordwrong yup, it sure does, I drink caffeine myself, and I’m am aware of its physiological effects. However, there is a big difference between antagonising the A1 receptor and replacing dopamine in the brain as Patrick Holford claims. Also, I train quite often after drinking coffee, with a marginal increase in motor functions, so perhaps you are referring to caffeine in excessive amounts?

  9. holfordwrong says:

@MrTACOCHIP for anyone interested, among its many other effects caffeine antagonises the A1 receptor. As this is involved in inducing sleep and reducing motor functions and anxiety, caffeine can make you feel awake and alert.

  10. holfordwrong says:

@opusde Some corrections for you – “their”, “argumentative”, also odd use of a comma after holford.

  11. MrTACOCHIP says:

A peer-reviewed biochemistry textbook written by someone with a qualification in the field of biochemistry in an accredited institute. I am not one of those people, but I can tell you that caffeine does not “replace” dopamine in the brain. I’m interested in nutrition from a sports and a psychological viewpoint, and these statements by Holford are total bullshit.

What’s your problem with alternative ideas?

What do you have to lose?

I’d rather find out for myself than rely on someone who just says something can’t be done.

    I don’t like you.

  15. capricious71 says:

@holfordwrong Wow – to call yourself “holfordwrong”, to actually go to that trouble means he really upsets you.
All he’s doing is suggesting NATURAL foods and supplements.

You don’t seem very open to alternative ideas. Maybe you would like us to be slaves to the pharmaceutical companies.

    Would you?

he’s in effect dispensing health advice and playing down certain treatments (something you would expect a doctor to do) without any qualifications or, crucially, any knowledge of what he is discussing.
