How do I stop drinking?

As I’ve aged I’ve fallen into the easy buzz. I was mystical and lived in yoga ashrams and had a great many wonderful experiences. They warned me if I left at the point I was at that the negative would come at me even harder. Kind of like stretching a rubber band. I pulled it far because I had extraordinary ability and saw and walked away. They were amazed and saddened. True to their word I’ve fallen into alcoholism which those who haven’t been there can’t understand. My spiritual side has never gone away yet alcohol like a cancer won’t let me go. Any answers??

    AA

  4. Bainz says:

  5. Laura says:

Just stay strong and stay away from the drink and the temptation.

  6. Morris says:

  7. Tia W says:

    Try weed!

  8. Dick Cheney says:

Look up AA in your area and go to 90 meetings in 90 days

  9. jackthlad3009 says:

Dont put the liquid in your mouth and dont swallow!!!!!!

  10. Semper Fi says:

Don’t go to AA. Put your faith in God, stay in the word, read the Bible everyday, when you feel like drinking go read the Bible some more. Transform your drinking habit into a reading the Bible habit.

  11. Just me says:

GET help. You can’t do this alone. Everyone needs someone. Just need to know where to find it. Call AA for starters.

  12. Scuzzo says:

No religion can help you with a genetic disposition towards substance abuse. You should attend AA, use will power to control your habit, and try to avoid religious nonsense to solve your problems.

  13. That Canadian Guy™ says:

    Christian advice: JUST BELIEVE!

Normal person: AA is a good start.. Get some support from your friends and relatives.

  14. RAYMOND C says:

Without question, partaking in habitual behavior not only causes you pain but, it inflicts pain on the people around you as well. However, do not allow what you have done in the past or what others have done to you, to cause you to live in fear of what the future holds. The past is the past, it is over, and living in it does not serve anyone well. Live in the present moment, be kind to yourself, and learn to love yourself. How can you love someone else if you don’t love yourself? The answer is you can’t!!! It isn’t a big secret that you’re feeling shame and guilt for what you’ve done. In fact, you’re probably questioning right now as to whether you should be punished for your past actions. Well guess what, its ok! God doesn’t punish people, we punish ourselves. God is a loving and forgiving being. So if you thought that you would continue to punish yourself with shame and guilt before God gets a hold of you, you can stop right now! We do not have defects of character, are not full of shortcomings, and we certainly are not powerless! On the Contrary, we are all the same, we are all connected, and we all have the same power to change!

  15. Chadz88 says:

I also have a drinking problem, but getting over it slowly. Pray deeply and get your mind set to what your goal is. Many people have overcome alcohol, and so can you. It’s whether you really want to or not.

    Goodluck.

  16. 27PurpleRoses says:

Go to an Alcholics Anom. meeting held in a Christian church. They will help you with this. Then pray, and do not cease from praying and ask those who know you to pray for you too.

In many cases when people pray with a truly repentant heart asking for forgiveness, they receive it and the desire for sinful things goes away. Only you know what sinfulness exists in your lifestyle, those things can hold you back and keep you down. Repent, pray, go to AA meetings, and if you need to seek medical help to dry out from a Christian doctor.

What soever you ask in faith, it shall be given to you. So you MUST believe that God can remove this desire from you.

  17. waygoddoesthings says:

Only one way to stop doing anything. Make a quality decision to stop. A quality decision is one that from which there is no turning back, about which there is no debate. If you are looking for a magical zap from God forget it. He does not work that way.But if you put His word in your heart, there will be power to nhelp you. But it sounds like you are loaded with junk in your spirit.

  18. BRoth says:

    A.A.

  19. Ptah says:

Just stop… I did last year after drinking steadily (and way too much) for close to 35 years.

I just decided to and did…its called strength of will and discipline. Nobody…NOBODY… can change you but you.

You have a better chance of quitting by yourself than going to AA. AA’ success rate of 5%, is the same as spontaneous remission of alcohol consumption. You do NOT need to turn this over to a “higher power” you can do it on your own. You are not helpless against your addiction.. its a 12 step lie.

  20. I Don't Believe You says:

Hey tard, stop drinking. That’s how you stop.

  21. jules says:

It sounds like you are a rational person. Think about alcohol rationally. Plain and simple, it is a toxin. When you drink, you are introducing a toxin into your body, specifically your liver. Basically, you’re poisoning yourself. Drinking alcohol is also a choice. Every drink you have is a choice you’ve made. I used to drink quite a bit, unitl I started thinking about in simple, rational terms. Do I choose to introduce a toxin into my body, or not? I chose not. I hope you will soon be able to do the same. With your spiritual side to guide you, simply make the choice NOT to drink. Go through life unimpaired.

  22. Dr Jazz says:

AA has a 5% success ratio.
    Stay away from it.

Get all of the sugar and starch out of your diet.
    Take a chromium supplement daily.
Alcohol craving is a sugar craving. Look into a low sugar/carb lifestyle.

  23. natasxeslived says:

Stop buying it and put down the glass

  24. Thomas Jefferson says:

You need to have a strong reason,a goal and the will to quit.
Keep the goal foremost in your mind and do not let yourself down.
Think of the benefits and the inner strength you will attain.
Breaking the fast will not let anyone down but yourself.
It takes alot of willpower, but in the end its worth it.

  25. Denise M says:

Stanger – you saw before you had help. You need to get help it doesn’t even have to be a religious organization of any sort of professional alcoholic recovery program. But if you believe that spiritual help, helped you move forward then, if I may say, that anyone who states that you will fail without their help is condeming you to failure. It was your faith in what was within that led you out of the hold of alcohol (to a Christian this would be God’s Holy Spirit).

  26. Sara says:

Being sober and being in recovery are two different worlds, the first one comes from staying clean, the second one comes from working your ass off on issues that made you drink too much in the first place.

For the alcoholic, alcohol has two objectives, to isolate you, and kill you. Pretty simple really.

Those pains are just a little warning of the horrors to come if you continue drinking, not a pretty sight.

  27. kenneth says:

bah, just know that after a month off it you won’t even like its taste any more.
If you don’t have the will to be off it for that one month then you don’t deserve to be off it, that’s it.
Life is a bit tough on the weak ones and it will always be. So, are you one of the weak ones?

  28. Put on the Full Armor of God says:

If You had seen the Contorted look on mY Dad’s Face when he died from Liver failure caused by Alcoholism, You would not have that problem

  29. pokergeek2 says:

    To stop drinking:

When you have picked up a drink, put it down and don’t drink it.
    You win.

  30. Jeancommunicates says:

First ask Jesus to deliver you from alcoholism. Then get into a 12 step Alcoholics Anonymous Class – AA. These classes are Christian oriented. Continually ask Jesus to deliver you and eventually He will.

In the Bible it said a woman continually harassed a judge to do something for her and because he was sick and tired of her continually coming to him, he delivered whatever she wanted to her.

  31. Diana G says:

I am not familiar with ashram life nor the consequences of leaving. I do understand the pain of an addiction. There are different methods people have used to stop drinking. Some successful, some not. Since you are so unhappy why not try AA. They have spiritual principles, by which you are believing in a Higher Power (whatever that may be for you) Their is no commitment. Call a hot line number any where in the world and ask for a meeting sight. Go and listen. See if it might appeal to you. Good luck and blessings.

  32. jomomma says:

If you are seroius, go to http://www.smartrecovery.org

They offer a rational way to help stop drinking based on scientific principles. No jebus, no 12 step, just Science!

    Good luck

  33. mamaisaak4 says:

God is the only one that can set us free from the bondage of the devil. Alcoholism, Drugs, pornography, ect…these are all bondages that hold us slave to sin. If you know God, you know what you need to do in order to be free. It is not mysticim or yoga…it is by the power of the Almighty. Learn of Him, He can help you.

  34. , says:

i think youre reading way too much of your spirituality into this.

You’ve made the mistaken journey into alcoholism, only you can get out of it.
get some professional help, ..through an abuse program. As you get better your spiritual “side” will become better.

  35. dandmrs says:

Booze..is the only “disease” that can be cured by abstinence from it.

They don’t call them spirits for nuthing eh?

Alkies have an emptiness where something else should be in their spirit. I know, because i been off it for 25 years.

Oh pooh, now you know i’m old.

  36. Servant of Jesus Christ says:

I think you really need to go to God in Prayer and ask Him to lead you to Help! You have given your life to searching for answers to your questions through worship of demons! They have now over come you because your worship has stopped ! Sadly this would have happened anyway because demonic worship is not enough to satisfy them , They Hate mankind because we are made in th every Image of God!

First Go to Him and Believe on His Son for Salvation John3:16 and then ask Him to deliver you from the demons entrapment which you have fallen into ! Then Get started into a Church program to help you defeat the enemy which preys on your soul and wants you to suffer in hell for all Eternity!

Here are a list of verses to help you to understand What God’s Remedy for sin is
    Romans 5:8
    Romans 6:23
    John14:6
    Acts 4:12
    Luke 19:10
    1 Corinthians 15:3
    And of course John3:16,17,18

If you Call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ He will ave you for all Eternity!

  37. D.Zilla says:

But the bottle down and walk away. it’s hard, but you can do it.

  38. idontknow17@ymail.com says:

I once was a crack addict. I got so bad that all I could think about was crack. If I wasn’t high all thought about was finding away to get more and when I had some all I could think about was getting more after it was gone. I isolated myself from everyone close to me and blamed everyone but myself for being the way I was. I was always angry at everyone and it fueled my desire to get high. I even blamed God for creating me. I felt like I was a Judas in sorts Created for destruction. But than I realized that I had a choice, I chose to get high instead of facing life’s problems. After I realized that I had a choice I wanted to change, but I needed lots of help, and when I was honest with myself and others I confessed and humbled myself admitting to those around me that I had a problem. It takes time to change but the most important thing is honesty and humility, without those its impossible.

  39. Sinead xx says:

Hi ,sounds like you have a great awareness about yourself and your drinking, that in itself will lead you on your path to recovery. The wheel of change consists of parts, 1Pre-Contemplation- before you realise you want to get help.2 Contemplation- deciding what approach is going to be ie. 12 step programme, cognitive behavioural therapy or ant-abuse along with counselling. Then you have 3.action phase this where you begin one of the approaches listed. 4.Maintenance stage, this is the difficult part ,maintain your goal to stay alcohol free, but with a relapse prevention plan, this becomes easier, you can identify triggers for when you start to drink, and then learn the skills to cope with these feelings. You have said your spiritual side has never gone, so sounds like the 12 step programme would benefit you. There is no easy answer to your question or any magic wands but there is help out there, and you should try confide in friends and family to help you through this difficult time..You can do it have faith..Best of luck….Sinead xx

  40. Dave RC says:

To stop drinking, I’d recommend praying the rosary. See promise #3 below:

    http://www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/prayers/...

The fifteen promises of Mary to Christians who recite the rosary:
    1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.
    2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
    3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against Hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
    4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
    5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
    6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God and become worthy of eternal life.
    7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
    8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death, they shall participate in the merits of the saints in Paradise.
    9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
    10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
    11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
    12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
    13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.
    14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
    15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

    God bless!
    Dave

  41. termite choking on the splinters says:

i suppose the friendliest way to cope is to just accept it as part of who you are…

    i love the drink.
and i don’t even plan on quitting.
be it a major health factor, i could also die in a car accident tomorrow.
    fate is fate, darling…
and you are who you were supposed to be.

    don’t change, i say.
i’ll love you just the same.
